Wedding Insurance FAQs

Who can purchase wedding insurance?

Residents of U.S. may purchase coverage. The Insured/Policyholder must be at least 18 years of age. An honoree will always be defined as an insured on the policy but may or may not be the named insured. The Named Insured can be either of the honorees or someone such as a parent or other family member that has a financial stake in the wedding.

Please note: The Wedding Protector Plan is currently not available to residents of Alaska, Hawaii, & Louisiana.

Why should I purchase wedding insurance?
Should you experience a covered loss, your non-recoverable costs can be as much, if not more, than the cost of an automobile. The quality of your wedding may depend upon your decision to insure against financial loss. For example, you buy insurance to provide a replacement automobile against unfortunate mishaps. Why not protect wedding like you would your other valuable investments?

For examples of possible event day disasters see Why Wedding Insurance.

Can I view a sample policy?

What does the basic policy insure?

The basic policy (Core Coverage) can reimburse you in case you lose your non-recoverable deposits and purchases if covered circumstances beyond your control cause you to cancel or postpone your wedding. You can also be protected against no-show or bankrupt vendors, damage to wedding attire, damaged gifts, and much more.

Does the Wedding Protector Plan private event insurance cover “change of heart”?
The Private Event Insurance Policy does not provide coverage in the event that either the bride or groom changes their mind and does not want to proceed with the wedding.

Yes, deposits you have already made will typically be covered as long as there is no impending claim or existing claim situation that you have knowledge of when you purchase the policy.
How much wedding insurance do I need?
It is recommended that you choose a coverage level equal to the amount you would stand to lose in a worst-case scenario if you were forced to reschedule your wedding at the last minute. Consider costs and deposits of venue, gown, wedding rings, caterers, entertainment, flowers, cake, invitations, even postage, etc.

Wedding Protector Plan Quick Quote

I live in one State, but, my wedding will be in a different state. What state do I choose for a quote?
You should select the state in which you reside.

Please note: The Wedding Protector Plan is currently not available to residents of Alaska, Hawaii, & Louisiana.

Many people are helping to pay for the wedding. Will their deposits be protected?
Deposits of the honoree(s) and their “immediate family” could be covered. “Immediate family” is defined in the Special Provisions as the parents, children, and grandparents of an honoree who has paid for or contracted to pay for any item, service, or location covered under the policy.

It is important to keep all receipts and contracts in case you must file a claim.

Is there coverage if the honoree(s) cannot make the ceremony?
Yes, reimbursement is available if a necessary and unavoidable cancellation or postponement of the event occurs. Reimbursement is available for transportation, food, catering services, property and equipment rentals, hall and location rentals, and more. Refer to the policy for full details regarding exclusions and limitations of coverage.
Does wedding insurance provide coverage for illness or injury to the honoree?
Yes. Coverage will apply if there is an unexpected illness, injury or death that prevents the appearance of the honorees, parents, grandparents and children of the honorees or ceremony officiates. Refer to the policy for full details regarding exclusions of coverage with respect to pre-existing conditions.
The honoree is in the military? What if he/she is called up right before the wedding?
If circumstances beyond your control (for example, an unforeseen deployment or withdrawal of leave) cause you to postpone your wedding, coverage is provided for all deposits forfeited and any amount incurred due to contractual obligations subject to the policy terms, conditions, and exclusions.
Am I covered in case of bad weather on my wedding day?
The Wedding Protector Plan makes a distinction between a rainy day and truly severe or catastrophic weather, such as a hurricane. If catastrophic weather causes you to postpone the wedding, we can potentially provide coverage for expenses incurred, but not reimbursed.
When should I buy wedding insurance?

Coverage can be purchased as early as two years before your wedding day and as late as 24 hours before your event in most states. We recommend you purchase coverage as soon as you begin making deposits and purchases for this event. Purchases already made can be covered provided you have receipts for them, and you did not know of any impending or existing claim situations when you purchased insurance.

Can I purchase wedding insurance for events outside the U.S.?
Yes. You can purchase coverage for locations in U.S. and its territories and possessions, Puerto Rico, Canada, United Kingdom, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Turks, Caicos, the Caribbean Islands (excluding Cuba & Haiti) and cruise ships leaving from a port within these territories.
